A Picture Worth A Thousand Words by David Cross

Hola! To begin editing I had to choose a picture that was light. I began with opening another new document and picking five different texts. I selected the pixels of all five of them going one at a time and saving them as a brush. To save them as a brush I selected them and and went to Edit, define Brush Preset then and WA-LA! It's in with the brushes. After that, I went back to the photo and Went to the Select menu, Color Range, then shadows. I did the same steps to get midtones: Select menu, Color Range, then midtones. I began to fill the layers in with black and gray by I hid the background layer from view. I made midtones active by clicking on midtones, went to Edit, fill, and used 50% gray. I kind of did the same with shadows: Edit, fill, and clicked on black. This step fills the photo with black and gray. I then made the background layer active again; I clicked on the shadow layer, and presses Control E to merge it with the midtones layer. Then After I was done with all of that I went to my brushes and picked one of my five texts and clicked F5 to get all these fun options to tilt the word, space the text. I did the same with the other four. I also changed the opacity and flow to 100% because I like the darkness of it.

Creation of Choice!

Shortcuts I did were:
Zoom tool - z click and z alt click to zoom out
Marquee tool - m and capital M to switch marquee tools
Clone stamp tool - s
Save layer - control j
To deselect - control d
To undo - control z

For class I am creating an image of my choice. The image is of me and my friend in an apple orchard, but the picture doesn't have pictures of apples so it's just me and my friend not mattering where we are! So, I'm to create this photo however I want! I am only to use things she taught me using photo shop! So here goes my steps.
First, I created a border. To do that, I selected the pixels on the layer, I went to select, modify and border. To fill the border with a color I went to image and fill. Then I put the text in where a T is found in the tool bar on the left. Also to make the smaller images stand out more so I used a stroke. Stroke is found in fx. I did the same with the stroke around the text. To get the color of the stroke I went to fx, stroke then color. I changed the main photo a little bit by taking out the purple and gold in my sweatshirt. I also made my hair longer! :) Also I extracted the portrait pictures in the lower corner from different pictures and transferred them in this picture! To do that I selected the object I wanted in two different pictures and put two screens on the computer screen and brought the picture to the creation of choice. I changed the blending mode of the two pictures on the bottom. The blending mode they are set on is screen and it's kind of like opacity, with a fade away look. I made a duplicate and changed the blending mode of the two pictures in the bottom. I changed the duplicates blending mode to hard light and to do that I went to fx, blending mode, then hard light! Hard light makes the picture brighter but keeping it dark at the same time. I changed the color of picture of us walking using levels, making the picture brighter. I also added a filter around the main picture. The setting sprayed stroke setting are like colored pencil drawing. I went to filter, brush strokes and sprayed strokes. I also used the butterfly custom brush to create an innocent appearance :) Not that we're not but you know.
I liked the photo as it wasn't photo shopped but I like it even better now because using photo shop, the picture looks like many memories in one picture! I didn't like trying to find a filter though. Trying to find a filter was taking up a lot of my time because I'm never sure which one to pick. But! I found one! :)

Personalized Card!

First I made a new document. Then, I chose one of my favorite colors for the background and I chose purple because it's my favorite color. Purple is my favorite because it's not too girly or too boyish and I think I'm in the middle...more girly but still I just feel for purple haha. :). Any purple is perfect.  I Chose a purple and using the paint busket tool to get the whole page the color I picked. Then to get the stripes I used the rectange marquee tool and the paint bucket tool. Then I used the brush of the rose because that's my favorite flower :) and to do that I just clicked on the brush tool and towards the top of the page are many brushes. Same with the music notes I clicked on the brush tool and went to the top of the page for many options of brushes. I used a stroke for the picture border and I used stroke instead of border and fill because the picture wouldn't let me and I'm not sure why. With the text I used the same font. I changed the colors and used stroke just for the bestfriend quote. I just copy and pasted the volleyball and basketball. To get the zebra picture behind my initials I just used the clipping mask found under layer and it hides inside the text. I also created a new brush. I took praying hands off the intenet by cop and pasting the hands onto a new document and went under edit and clicked on define brush preset. THAT'S IT!!

Post Card

First I edited the picture of the Days sign. I cleaned up the sign using the clone stamp tool because those circles on the wood made it look ugly. Also there was a crack in the sign and I used the patch tool to fix it. I took out the shed behind the park using the selection tool and the clone stamp tool because it was distracting. I took out the tree branches using both the clone stamp tool and the patch tool. On the post card the opacity is set on 76%. I copied the picture and changed the blending mode to overlay.

Secondly, I edited the picture of my mom and me. I used the quick selection tool and changed the background to black and white using image and adjustments. I changed the vibrancy because we looked really white and that setting allows us to have color. The opacity is set on 92%. I copied the picture and changed the blending mode to overlay.

The family picture wasn’t a very good picture. It was out of focus and the light was a big distraction and it really ruined the photo. So, I cropped out the family and put it on the post card. I cropped us out using the polygon lasso tool. I changed the whole screen and made two screens show and slid one picture into the other.

To get the post card I made a new document and made a 4x6 layout. I used the text tool to create my text and the character to change fonts and font sizes.

I made borders aroung the post card and the pictures. To make a border I used the selection tool, went to select, modify and border. The border guide wants the number of pixels we want selected and it won't do anything if you don't fill it. I went to edit, fill, then this guide wants the opacity and the higher you go, the more the color is visible. and there are my borders!

I created a new brush of clip art. To do that, I copied it from the internet and pasted it on a new document and listed it as bow. I changed the size using master odometer.  And I changed the opacity using the opacity setting. ALL DONE!!!

Choice #1

This photo was taken October 14th, 2010 around 9:45 a.m. The flash is off and the setting was on guide and outdoor cloudy lighting.

I cropped out the edges of the door and straightened out the picture. I think this photo looks alot better.

I thought the picture could be brighter so I used levels; in levels I changed the level to lighter, I brought the highlights into 130 instead of 150, I didn't change the midtones or the shadows. I changed the curves of the photo to a linear contrast, this makes the photos color pop out more. I changed the color balance of the photo, I didn't change midtones and changed the cyan-red to +12, didn't change the magenta-green, changed the yellow-blue to -8. I also took out the light post next to the first E in EMERGENCY. I like this photo because it's straight and not a big shadow on the right anymore!

Scale

This picture was taken November 4th, 2010 at about 4:00 p.m. The flash is off and the setting is on landscape.

I changed the brightness: the brightness is set higher and the contrast is lower. I also changed the curves and the setting for that one is higher too. The contrast made the picture brighter and the changed the darker parts of the picture brighter too.  I like this picture because it's not dim anymore.

City Scape

I took this photo around 12:00 p.m. On November 4th, 2010. The setting was on AUTO and the flash was off.

I cropped the photo. I only changed the levels and this made the photo darker. I removed the advertisment sign laying on the ground on the left of the stop sign. I like this photo better because I can see more into the picture, I like that I can see the lake better.
